Last week, the Eldoret City Marathon organizers announced a new date for the 3rd edition of the race. It will be held on 6th June, which is exactly 30 days from the day the announcement was made.
Following a presidential directive to suspend all sporting activities, the race had earlier on been postponed. The hard decision to postpone was made literally 11 days to race day. Fortunately, for the organizers, everything was already in place before the race was postponed on 31st March.
There is limited time to prepare well, but it comes as a great relief to over 400 Kenyan runners, who for a while now, had missed a number of races from early last year when the COVID 19 pandemic struck. Eldoret City Marathon was the only road running event that had been planned to take place this year in Kenya.
In the list of foreign nationals registered for the race are Kenya’s rival athletes from Ethiopia. This, in addition to the race being quite accessible to most local runners, makes Eldoret city marathon potentially one of the most competitive (and fast) of races in Kenya.
Part of the organizing crew have lately been making last minute preparations and final touches for the race. This time around, they have very little to do as they wait for the race day.
