From Us At Enda
Global Running Day is next Wednesday, and we want to extend the celebration through the whole month. So we’re creating a simple campaign: you post a video of your run on social media, and then challenge 3 friends to go out for a run too.
For each person who takes part throughout June, and uses the hashtag #EndaTreeRun in their post, we’ll plant 1 tree in Kenya. It’s good for your mind, body, friendships, and the planet!
Let’s turn Global Running Day into Global Running Month, and make it one to remember!

Tegla Loroupe's Never Ending Support for Refugees
From petitioning for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to introduce a refugee team, to getting her petition passed and becoming the Chef de Mission of the Refugee Olympic Team, Tegla has worked hard so refugees can share their talent with the world. Despite the negative impact Covid-19 has had on her mission, Tegla has been training 8 women who are hoping to earn a spot in the Refugee Olympic Team.
Timo Announced for Doha!
1500m world champion Timothy Cheruiyot has been announced for the Doha Diamond League. Pretty exciting because we haven’t seen him in action in a while. He will of course compete in his traditional 1500m, his first international competition for the year having come back from an injury. Last year he competed in the 800m. Doha Diamond league will be on the 28th of this month.
“With Doha being my season’s opener, it is an important race to assess my shape at the start of an Olympic summer. I look forward to delivering a confident performance,” he said.
Brigid Kosgei is Recovered and Fit
Brigid Kosgei, the women's marathon world record holder Brigid Kosgei has shaken off a slight injury and is back in training at Kapsait Training Camp in Elgeyo Marakwet. She is preparing for the Olympic Games with an Olympic gold medal on her mind. Brigid competed at last month’s Istanbul Half Marathon finishing fifth.
Trials Location Moved
The Athletics Kenya invite only Olympic trials have been moved to Kasarani and will be used as a dress rehearsal for the upcoming Under-20 Championships at the same venue. The trials were initially scheduled for Kipchoge Keino in Eldoret. The national trials will be held on June 17-19.
On one hand, it would have been lovely to see the trials take place in the City of Champions, but it is a good facilities test for U-20 Championships, which will be the biggest sporting event Kenya has ever hosted.
Steeplechasers To Watch in Tokyo
The Steeplechase race, especially for men, has always been a Kenyan event. And as World Athletics continues with the Tokyo games with 100 athletes to watch, the focus is on steeplechase. Only Beatrice Chepkoech made the list. In 2016 she finished fourth in the 3000m steeplechase at the Rio Olympic Games. She is a different athlete now.
As for the men's race, it is a big concern because at the moment, Kenya doesn’t have a list of guaranteed male steeplechasers who Kenya can confidently say, ‘gold medal is assured in Tokyo.'
Runners Die During Ultramarathon in China
Twenty-one people died in a 100km race in Yellow River stone forest in Gansu province. The runners competing at high altitude were hit with extreme weather conditions - hail, freezing rain and high winds hit at high-altitude. Chinese authorities have launched investigations into the deaths with reports indicating race organisers did not heed weather warnings.
Ron Hill Passes Away
Hill was the 2nd person to run sub 2:10 for the marathon and ran every day for 52 years and 39 days. He is an absolute icon of the sport and the ultimate inspiration for all of us to aim for greater consistency. He passed away this weekend at the age of 82.
